Melbourne's Allocate+ system (branded as MyTimetable) runs on a strict preference window - preferences are processed in a single batch, so submitting early vs late within the window makes no difference.
Melbourne operates a Graduate School model for most professional degrees (Law, Medicine, Education) - these have separate timetabling processes outside Allocate+.
The Allocate+ key dates page (listed as MyTimetable on the university website) lists preference open/close dates - bookmark it, as these differ from semester start dates.
