The short version

At ANU you enrol in courses through ANUHub, then self-allocate to your tutorials and other small classes in MyTimetable. Semester 1 2027 starts on Monday 22 February 2027. ANU hasn't published the Semester 1 2027 MyTimetable opening date yet, but its own rule is that allocation opens two weeks before teaching starts, which puts it around Monday 8 February 2027. You pick your own classes, so the good times go to whoever gets there first. Smoov can import your courses straight from MyTimetable and work out every timetable that fits around your shifts and hard nos before you click anything.

ANU timetabling involves three things with three names: ANUHub, Web Publisher and MyTimetable. Only one of them actually puts you in a class. This guide covers which does what, what we know about Semester 1 2027 timing, and how to go into allocation with a plan and a backup.

ANUHub, Web Publisher and MyTimetable

  1. ANUHub is where you enrol in courses. ANU says you need to be enrolled in a course before you can access MyTimetable for it. For Semester 1 2027, the last day to add courses through ANUHub is Monday 1 March 2027.
  2. Web Publisher shows the final timetable once it's released. It's for planning only, not allocation. For Semester 2 2026 it went up at 11am on Friday 10 July, three days before allocation opened.
  3. MyTimetable is where you self-allocate to tutorials and other small teaching activities. This is ANU's version of Allocate+.

ANU is upfront that Web Publisher shows every activity for a course, but not all of them will be available to you once MyTimetable opens. Some tutorials stay hidden unless numbers require them. Some are restricted to particular cohorts, like domestic or international students. And the timetable can still change after release. ANU's own advice: if you plan from Web Publisher, plan several options.

Semester 1 2027 dates: what is and isn't published

As of early November 2026, ANU's MyTimetable page lists both the 2027 Web Publisher release and Semester 1 2027 student allocation as dates to be confirmed. Here's what is published, from the 2027 university calendar:

  • Monday 15 February 2027: ANU Orientation Week.
  • Monday 22 February 2027: Semester 1 begins.
  • Monday 1 March 2027: last day to add Semester 1 courses via ANUHub.
  • Wednesday 31 March 2027: Semester 1 census date.
  • Friday 28 May 2027: Semester 1 ends.

For the allocation window, ANU's MyTimetable glossary says class allocation opens two weeks before the teaching period starts and closes three weeks after. With a 22 February start, that puts Semester 1 2027 allocation at around Monday 8 February to Monday 15 March. For Semester 2 2026, Web Publisher went up at 11am on Friday 10 July and allocation opened at 11am on Monday 13 July. That's ANU's rule applied to the calendar, not a published date, so check the MyTimetable page once ANU confirms it.

How allocation works in MyTimetable

There's no ranking round at ANU. You open MyTimetable, find an activity marked Select, and allocate yourself to a time. Popular times fill, and once they're full, they're full. The statuses worth knowing:

  • Select: you can allocate to this activity.
  • Adjust: you're allocated and can still change it.
  • Read Only: locked, or allocation has finished.
  • Off: allocation isn't open yet.

A red full icon means there's no space left. ANU's advice is to take your next best option, because you have to be allocated to an activity before you can request a swap or join a waitlist. To request a swap into a full class, you click the heart icon. If another student wants to swap into your class, the swap goes through instantly. If you're waitlisted, MyTimetable allocates you and notifies you when a place opens, but ANU is clear there's no guarantee one will.

The strategy for this kind of system is the opposite of USYD's preference rounds. See FIFS vs preference-based enrolment for why.

Import your ANU courses into Smoov

ANU is one of the unis where Smoov imports straight from Allocate+. You don't type in class times. The import pulls each course, each activity and every available time.

  1. Open MyTimetable on a laptop or desktop, once your courses are showing in it.
  2. In Smoov, choose Import from Allocate+, pick ANU and Semester 1, and copy the script it gives you.
  3. Right-click anywhere, choose Inspect, open the Console tab and paste the script. Chrome may ask you to type "allow pasting" first. That's Chrome's own safety check.
  4. The script copies your courses. Paste them back into Smoov.

If you want to plan from Web Publisher before MyTimetable opens, you can type class times into Smoov by hand instead. Add more than you think you need, since some of what Web Publisher shows may never open for you. The full guide has the step-by-step version, and the ANU page covers the basics.

Build your plan and your backup

With your courses in, block out the things that don't move: work shifts, sport, the bus that only comes once an hour. Smoov only returns timetables that keep those times clear. Then choose the preferences you care about, like no early starts or fewer days on campus, and it ranks the best timetables that fit.

Each option says what it gets you and what it costs you. One might give you Fridays off but cost you a 9am tute on Monday. Another might keep every day short but put you on campus five days. Settle on one before allocation opens, then open its enrolment guide. It lists exactly which class to pick for each course.

When allocation opens, work through that list in MyTimetable. If a class is full, tap it in the enrolment guide to mark it full and Smoov works out new options around it. Then take the next best time in MyTimetable and request the swap, in that order.

Lining up classes with your mates

Self-allocation means there's no results day where everyone finds out together, so the time to coordinate with friends is before allocation opens. In SmoovSync, one of you with Premium starts a room and everyone else joins free. You each add your best timetables, and it finds the combination that lines up the most classes and free time, so you all go in with the same plan and the same backup. The SmoovSync guide has the walkthrough.
