How to plan your UTS timetable for Autumn 2027

The short version

The 2027 timetable is on the UTS Timetable Planner from Wednesday 2 December 2026, and class allocation for Autumn 2027 runs in myTimetable from Wednesday 9 December 2026. You pick your own classes from whatever still has space, so it pays to know exactly what you want before you go in. The week between those two dates is the best time to plan; if allocation is already open, a plan still tells you what to pick first and what to fall back on. Smoov can import your subjects straight from myTimetable, search the timetables that fit around your shifts and hard nos, and give you a list of the exact classes to pick, plus a backup.

Allocation day: Wednesday 9 December

UTS class allocation for Autumn 2027 opens in myTimetable on Wednesday 9 December. First in gets the spot, so this is the order to do it in.

  1. From Wed 2 DecThe 2027 timetable comes out. On a laptop, import your subjects into Smoov, block your shifts and pick an option.
  2. The night beforeOpen the enrolment guide on your pick. It lists every class to select by its option number, gives each one a backup that still fits, and flags the ones that only run at one time. Want it on your phone too? Send it there from the guide.
  3. On the daymyTimetable in one tab, Smoov in another. Go down the enrolment guide in order: tutorials and labs first, then the classes with the fewest other times.
  4. If a class is fullTake its backup in the guide (If full: 02). No backup left? Tap it to mark it full and re-optimise. Smoov works out a new timetable around what's left, so you're not starting over.

UTS timetabling has three moving parts with three different names: My Student Admin, the Timetable Planner and myTimetable. First-years tend to find out which one does what at the exact moment they need it. This guide covers all three, the Autumn 2027 dates, and how to walk into allocation day with a plan instead of a spreadsheet.

My Student Admin, Timetable Planner and myTimetable

The three systems run in a fixed order, and each one only does its own job:

  1. My Student Admin is where you enrol in subjects. Re-enrolment for 2027 opened in October 2026, on a date that depended on your faculty, and new students can enrol in 2027 subjects from 19 October 2026. You can't allocate classes for a subject you aren't enrolled in.
  2. The UTS Timetable Planner shows the planned activities and class times for each subject before allocation opens. UTS is explicit that it is not an enrolment system: nothing you do there books you into anything.
  3. myTimetable is where you actually pick your classes, once you're enrolled in the subjects. This is the UTS version of Allocate+.

One catch with the Timetable Planner: UTS warns that some activities shown there may not be available for allocation in myTimetable. Some are restricted to particular student cohorts, some only open if enrolments increase, and some need approval first. Treat the Planner as a strong hint, not a promise.

Autumn 2027 key dates

These are the dates UTS has published for the first half of 2027. All of them come from UTS's own myTimetable page and 2027 academic year dates, for the main calendar. Some faculties run different calendars, so check yours.

  • Wednesday 2 December 2026: 2027 timetable published on the UTS Timetable Planner.
  • Wednesday 9 December 2026: class allocation for the first half of 2027 (including Autumn) opens in myTimetable.
  • Monday 1 - Friday 12 February 2027: Orientation.
  • Monday 15 February 2027: Autumn session starts.
  • Monday 1 March 2027: last day to enrol. This is also the last day you can change your timetable in myTimetable for the session.
  • Thursday 18 March 2027: census date.
  • Wednesday 7 April 2027: class allocation for the second half of 2027 (including Spring) opens.

Yes, Autumn allocation opens in the second week of December. It is very easy to be at the beach, or at work, or asleep. Put it in your calendar now.

How class allocation works at UTS

There's no ranking round and no results day at UTS. You open myTimetable, click an activity for a subject, and choose from the times that show Select. Whoever gets there first gets the spot.

A few things in myTimetable that are worth knowing before the day:

  • Full means the class has no spaces left and you can't select it.
  • Clash means that time overlaps with another class you've already picked.
  • Sections bundle activities together. For subjects run in sections, you can only pick activities from the same section, so choosing one section locks the times in the others.
  • Recorded activities (Rec, and Olr for online live recorded) are marked as clashable, so they can overlap with your other classes.

If you're coming from a uni that ranks preferences, like USYD, the strategy here is the opposite. Read FIFS vs preference-based enrolment for why that matters.

Import your UTS subjects into Smoov

UTS is one of the unis where Smoov can import straight from Allocate+. You don't type in class times. The import pulls every subject, every activity and every available time, including sections and recorded classes.

  1. Open myTimetable on a laptop or desktop, once your subjects are showing in it.
  2. In Smoov, choose Import from Allocate+, pick UTS and Autumn, and copy the script it gives you.
  3. Right-click anywhere, choose Inspect, open the Console tab and paste the script. Chrome may ask you to type "allow pasting" first. That's Chrome's own safety check.
  4. The script copies your subjects. Paste them back into Smoov.

If you'd rather read the script before you paste it into a console, here it is with notes.

If you want to start before your subjects are in myTimetable, you can type class times in from the Timetable Planner instead. Just remember the Planner can show classes that never open for allocation. The full importing guide has the step-by-step version, and the UTS page covers the common questions.

Build a plan for allocation day

With everything in Smoov, block out the things that don't move: work shifts, sport, caring for someone. Smoov only returns timetables that keep those times clear. Then pick the preferences you care about, like no early starts or fewer days on campus, and it ranks the best timetables that fit.

Each option tells you what it gets you and what it costs you, so you can see the trade before you make it. One option might give you a free Friday but cost you a Monday 8am lec. Another keeps your mornings clear but puts you on campus four days. That's a decision you want to make in early December, not in the 90 seconds before a tute fills.

When you've chosen, open the enrolment guide on that option. It lists exactly which class to pick for each subject. If something's full when you get there, tap it to mark it full and Smoov works out new options around it, so you're not rebuilding your week from scratch mid-allocation.

If you miss out: swaps and waitlists

Missing a class isn't the end of it. myTimetable has a swap feature for full classes, and UTS processes swap and waitlist requests first come, first served. A few rules from UTS that catch people out:

  • You have to be allocated to a class in that activity before you can join a waitlist for a different one. Take the next best time first, then request the swap.
  • A swap only goes through if the new class doesn't clash with your other allocations.
  • You can't see your position on a waitlist. You get an email if the swap works.
  • Changes to sectioned activities go through eRequest, not the swap feature.
  • You can change your timetable up until, and including, the last day to enrol: Monday 1 March 2027 for Autumn.

When you take a fallback class, re-run Smoov with that class locked in (Premium). Sometimes the backup fits a better overall week than the one you were trying to swap into, and you can stop refreshing myTimetable.

Lining up classes with your mates

Matching tutes with friends is harder under first in, first served, because there's no results day where everyone finds out together. The only time to coordinate is before allocation opens. In SmoovSync, one of you with Premium starts a room and everyone else joins free. You each add your best timetables, and it finds the combination that lines up the most classes and free time, so you all go into myTimetable with the same plan. The SmoovSync guide has the walkthrough.
